Who are we
Situated in the World Heritage Site of the Lower Zambezi River, bordering Mana Pools, ground was broken at Tafika Zambezi in September 2004, with the anticipation of creating a small fishing camp. The first clients arrived in September 2005 and they just happened to be Zimbabwe’s very own World-doubles Tennis champions Byron and Wayne Black, and their friends. The paint was still wet on their arrival as the camp was finished just in time. Over the years, Tafika has gained a reputation for being one of Zimbabwe’s most beautifully situated camps, both wild and remote, a breath-taking destination for game-viewing and Tiger fishing.
Situated 700 meters downstream of Tafika, Gombe Camp became part of the operation in 2012. It was redesigned and became the original directors personal camp. However, in the last few years the camp was opened to guests, mainly to compensate the overflow from Tafika. In August of 2022, Andrew Dawson and his family took full control as the sole owners of the Tafika Zambezi operation and Gombe Camp was renamed Makombakomba, after the range of hills in front of which the camp is situated. We felt that the unique, unspoiled location of Tafika Zambezi deserved to be optimized by considerable upgrades to the Camps, befitting the beauty that surrounds it. We are fully committed to providing the high standards that such a camp deserves, catering for the discerning fisherman as well as being a wonderful destination for guided photographic safaris. We are committed to the preservation and protection of this spectacular jewel of African wilderness, which, by a stay in our camps, enables others to experience the beauty of untouched Africa and all she has to offer.
